Thanks for this David. I agree that Long demonstrated the flavor of leadership that will last generations. Just thinking about the next generation of leaders at the U of A that will be positively impacted, and that may impact their next generation, as a result of Long's decision and actions. Awesome display of character and leadership...

David -- Agreed! I though Long did an outstanding job of handling the situation, and an outstanding job at the press conference. When he was finished, I thought "agree or disagree, you can not deny that he went about it the right way, for the right reasons, and is convicted that he made the right decision." And no one who has ever had to make a hard decision could find fault with that.

David - fantastic post, and I couldn't agree more. Jeff Long demonstrated courageous leadership through the scope and kind of change that many of us can't even begin to comprehend...and he isn't done yet. The change that he must lead through as he prepares for a landmark season (#3? ) without a head coach and the vision he must adhere to as he searches for a new one, will be one of monumental impact - not only on him personally, but literally thousands of invested stakeholders. After the last 7 days, I can't imagine a leader better prepared and more properly grounded for the task than Jeff Long.
I can tell you that if I were a top tier coach who is confident in my leadership, sure of my integrity, and eager to let my light shine on a national scale - I would WANT to work for Jeff Long.
A GREAT example of leading through change with courage and conviction - and making a HUGE impact on the surrounding "marketplace".

Well said, Sam! I find that starting my day with prayer sets me in the right direction because I KNOW that every day is going to send all kinds of things my way. In my job, I can plan all I like. That doesn't stop all of the ad hoc needs, requests and new projects that come up. My plan goes out the window and I have to keep myself from getting overwhelmed. I've discovered that overwhelm is simply a state of mind. It doesn't help me get things done. It stops me in our tracks so that things pile up further and the overwhelm only increases. When I start to feel that coming on, I stop, take a breath, pray, trust God and remember that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Then I prioritize and keep in mind that it's okay to let some things wait until tomorrow. From that place I can move forward - and often get more accomplished than I thought was possible! (like writing this response :-))
