If you have a heartbeat, you have likely been undermined by a co-worker. The quiet whispers behind your back from an aggressive, greedy, success driven peer.
Let’s assume for the moment that you didn’t deserve it. He or she plants these seeds with your boss, or a peer, or even your own team. You find out. It’s not the first time. You have had it.
So, as a Christian, how do you respond?
Jesus, ah Jesus…he told us clearly to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”! (Matthew 5:43-48) That’s not exactly what you had in mind, was it?
In our Bridging the Gap group today, we discussed example after example of this workplace “back stabbing”. We discussed several approaches. None of them are easy. But here you go:
- Ask God to be your advocate.
- Spend your energy guarding your own heart.
- Pray diligently for the offender and yourself.
- It’s ok to stand up for the truth.
- Pray diligently.
This is a really difficult workplace reality. You may have to pay a price. But doing the right thing, is always the right thing!
Holy Spirit, teach us…give us courage…to do the right thing when a co-worker attacks us. Amen
