Yesterday, Rob Hey, VP of Staffing and Development at America’s Car-Mart, spoke at our Eight-to-Five event. He spoke on “Faithfulness in Adversity”. It was a moving message of encouragement and motivation for people experiencing adversity in their lives.
In his talk, he told a great story about God, rainbows and a Best Buy employee. It pushed me to reread what God said to Noah about rainbows. When you have time, open your Bible and read Genesis 9:1-17. But here are the key verses for today:
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. Genesis 9:12-16
Do you ever feel like you are in a flood at work? In your marriage? With your health? That challenges and difficulties almost feel like a tsunami? That you can’t see any way around or through them?
“Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.” This verse can comfort us in those times of great adversity. His covenant with us promises us that He will never “destroy our life”.
And from now on, the rainbow can serve as a powerful remainder of the covenant that God made with us “for all generations to come”.
Father, thank you for rainbows. Thank you that from now on when I see a rainbow, I will see YOU and remember the covenant you made with us. Amen
