Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise. Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work, they labor hard all summer gathering food for the winter. Proverbs 6: 6-8
It is pretty humbling to be getting instruction from ants. But what models of preparation and consistent hard work. They know that winter is coming and they must be ready for whatever the circumstances might be.
Do we really plan ahead in our jobs? Often times we spend more time planning where we are going to lunch than we seriously make time to think ahead about the projects and assignments that are coming in the days ahead. But as we all know, its the time spent in careful preparation that so often is rewarded and keeps everything running as smooth as possible.
The metaphor of the ant’s hard work and preparation for winter season, is also a way to illustrate the point of being ready for the challenges of life and work. In other words, if we understand that life brings lots of challenges and potential hardships, we should be spending some time every day preparing ourselves for the “winter” that most assuredly will come in due time.
