Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, who leave the straight paths to walk in dark ways, who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways. Proverbs 2: 12-15
As we begin blogging through Proverbs again, I find myself looking at these verses differently now, wondering more about the broader message and not just seeing what is clearly stated on the surface.
These verses seem to make a powerful statement about how the evil one has been turning the hearts of man since the beginning. As I think about the overall condition of man today it does not seem that too much has changed. Many continue to be deceived and find their way to the dark side.
There is a solution however. What is it that will save us from this awful course? Wisdom.
Wisdom is one of the concepts that I find myself contemplating more deeply now. How can wisdom keep our paths straight? Where do I find this kind of wisdom? Being one who does not seem to produce much wisdom from my own strength, this has always been very real and personal need.
For the gives Lord gives wisdom and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:6
It might be finally sinking in that the wisdom I need to handle the complexities and of this life and the myriad of roles I play will only come from my willingness to stop, sit quietly before the Lord, listen and immerse myself in pursuing the relationship I was always intended to have with the Creator. There is no other way. Period.
