As I said in my last post, we have received so many encouraging comments and stories of life impact from our WorkMatters 31 Days of Proverbs and Prayer in July. We have been encouraged over and over to continue in some form or fashion.
In the meantime, we wanted to give YOU a chance to Blog. Out of the 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs and hundreds of verses…which one is most meaningful to you???
Simply click on the Comments section below and share with everyone your verse(s). And share why it’s your favorite, as well.
By the way, mine is…
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
My wife Theresa really turned me on to this verse years ago. She translates it…”let go, let God.”
Godspeed!
David
David:
Believe it or not, my favorite Proveb is the same as yours. Here is how I found it. When I graduated from college in the 1980s, I found myself in an economy much like this one — not a lot of jobs to be found. The last half of my senior year, I worked very hard interviewing and sending out resumes, trying to land one. But as graduation approached, I was still with nothing. Needless to say, lots of sleepless nights and fear of the unknown. Where would I go? What would I do?
One of my roommates sat up with me late one night and pointed me to Proverbs 3:5-6 and told me how it had helped her through some uncertain times. Once I discovered it, it became my daily mantra and prayer. I was determined to trust that God would guide me and that my future was in His hands — not mine. And, through God’s grace, I did find a wonderful job very soon after graduation that started me on my career path.
I have turned to this scripture in Proverbs many times since then and reflected on how, time and time again, when I trust in the Lord and honor Him, God has made “my paths straight.” It is a great lesson in faith and a testament to how God does indeed answer prayer.
David,
You may get a lot of consistent messages on this one. Mine is the same is your and Elise.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Trusting is so hard to do especially during tough times. It is always good to know that God has a plan for you but not always comforting to know that your timing and his may be different. I lean on this verse and Jeremiah 29:11 during the tough times!
Thanks for a great job with the 31 days of Proverbs. What a great addition to our quiet times.

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17
Miss you brother

David,
While I agree, Proverbs 3:5-6 is one that I lean on every day, Proverbs 23:16 was most meaningful to me this month. “The godley will trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked”.
The evening before this was posted I received a letter which actually knocked me down. When I opened this posting the following morning I was lifted up by God’s amazing grace. God’s timing in providing exactly what I needed through His word continues to amaze me. Claiming victory over circumstances through the power of Jesus Christ is something all believers can lean on as we “get up again”.

David,
Thanks so much for these daily posts on Proverbs. I bet you could go through each of them every month for several months and each day would continue to be fresh and new.
I’ve found that nearly every circumstance in life has been addressed in Proverbs. I’ve read that many of our greatest and wisest leaders made Proverbs part of their daily reading (including George Washington, and Abraham Lincolon). They would often read it by day of the month just as we did.
I have MANY favorite verses in Proverbs, including your favorite, but one in particular comes to mind that has recently been an encouragement to me.
In our challenging economy, many of us have lost the “security” of savings or investments. We sometimes get discouraged or nervous about our future when we see our savings shrink. What I’ve learned is that our only security is found in The Lord. Proverbs 18:11 says “The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall in his own imagination”. Our money is in our mind! It can evaporate tomorrow. Our wealth is found in Christ. Proverbs teaches us that if we work hard, and have wisdom and understanding from the Lord and seek after HIM for our needs, that he’ll take care of us.

Great insights and comments. I too have enjoyed both the book of Proverbs and the WM Blog. If I had to pick a single favorite it would be hard not to go along with 3:5-6. But one that has been speaking to me this summer is 13:13. “Whoever despises the word brings destruction on himself, but he who reveres the commandment will be rewarded.” (ESV) We live in a time when people despise the Word; but, those of us who revere the commandment(s) will be rewarded both now and in the future.
Favorite has to be Day 31 – A Woman After God’s Own Heart. My wife certainly qualifies as “Superwoman” also, busy with her Day Care facilities and still finds time to look after me – a full time job in itself!!!
