A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.  Proverbs 14:30 (NIV)

“A heart at peace”…..how many people do you know who would give anything for this?  In the 25 plus years that I worked in the marketplace, there were not many who I thought were at this place, including those who were believers.  Somehow the workplace seemed to impact us all and  we were all striving for the same things.  It did not seem that PEACE was all that prevalent.  ENVY on the other hand seemed to be abundant.

Are we envious of the things of this world?  There is such a pull to acquire and to achieve all that this world deems to be “success”.   Yet at the depths of our being we, as Christ followers, know that it is all an illusion.  What is it that we should be envious of on this earth?  Nothing will survive and all that seems important will be tested  by fire.  Will the things that really matter be our true hearts desire?

Lord, we long to know true peace….please help us to see that the world’s definition of peace is not sustainable.  There is no real peace  apart from you.  Please help us to not be envious of peace as defined by the world, but instead to claim the promise that everlasting peace is only available through placing our hope and trust in the Lord Jesus, son of God most high.  Amen.
