Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers. Proverbs 11:14 (NLT)
Did you noticed how much attention was given to who the new President’s advisers were going to be? It would appear there is a clear understanding that those selected to advise the President and serve on his Cabinet are extremely important choices. Solomon clearly understood that wise leadership was not a “lone ranger” experience.
When we are put in a place of leadership, there is tremendous temptation to think that that we have all the answers. “If these people would just listen and do what I tell them to everything would be great for everyone”, is a statement I have heard on more than one occasion. The end results are usually not pretty.
Wise leadership of a nation or of small team is best done collaboratively. Resist the temptation to just charge ahead with your plans and shortcut good counsel from those you work with. Although it may take a little extra time, the long run benefit to all concerned will be huge.
Father God, we confess that so often we forget to get the input of “many advisors” in our efforts to accomplish our agenda. Humble us Lord, as needed, to realize that those you have provided help us to see the blind spots that if missed, could result in disaster. Amen.
