Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life. Proverbs 4:13 (NIV)
These words just shout out to me from the pages of Proverbs. It is clear that the father is wanting the son to understand what he is saying, not just hearing the words. As the father of a recently married son, I can certainly relate as can many of you.
From the earliest age, our humanity seems to continually push us to go our own way. We are so sure that our way is best only to find out through usually a painful result, that had we heeded the wisdom of someone who had gone before us, we may have experienced a more pleasant outcome.
At work we are constantly in a position to receive instruction. Lets listen carefully to what is being said and take it seriously. There is tremendous wisdom in doing so.
Lord, help us to be open to those who are trying to teach us. Give us humble and receptive hearts, willing to accept that our lives can be tremendously better if we will heed the wisdom of those placed in our lives to instruct us. Amen
