Welcome to your new blog…From Sunday to Monday!
I love the name of this blog because it so clearly captures the essence of the great challenge that we all have…transitioning from our Sunday person to our Monday person. In fact, my 15-year-old son Dylan won the naming contest we had in my family, and then Sam Bates finished it off with some editorial flair.
But when the goldfish arrived on the scene, there was an awkward moment. At first we laughed and moved on. But then it got quiet in the room and we all began to stare at the picture. We were amazed as we began to talk about the reality of this picture. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions as to the possibilities. But let me ask you one question…do you ever feel like the goldfish?
WorkMatters was founded five years ago to help the goldfish. How can we “bridge the gap between our faith and our work?” The problem is enormous. We spend 50 percent of our waking hours at work, yet most of us live compartmentalized lives. We are one person on Sunday, and the world has its way with us Monday – Friday. WorkMatters’ vision is to change that dynamic. To take back some ground that we yielded to the world. To encourage, teach and challenge men and women in the marketplace to live for Christ there! To honor God with their work. To build relationships. To be a positive influence. To work with all their heart. To be men and women of impeccable integrity. To be servant leaders. To find work they love. And to manage that elusive work/life balance.
Our purpose for this blog is simple…we want to offer you a hand up. To give you a tool to be encouraged, to learn, and also to create a conversation with others from around the world, all with a similar need. Sam Bates and I will write at least two or three times a week. And from time-to-time we will invite guest authors to weigh-in with their personal stories and perspectives. We want you to join the conversation! Comment back as you feel led on the posts that you read so that we can all benefit from your perspectives, as well.
Feel free to swim around the blog. But most importantly, you gotta SUBSCRIBE. Your two choices are to either have each post sent to you via email or RSS feed.
Our work does matter to God. Let’s learn how!
